The Miami Valley has certainly had its fair share of snow fall this winter, and most of us are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Spring. Although the large quantities of precipitation should prove beneficial to our landscapes, be aware that the heavy snow loading can cause possible tree damage. Be sure to evaluate your trees for winter damage while the leaves are absent and visibility is much higher.
Can too much moisture be a problem? Most certainly for some species. Keep your eye on White Pines and Spruce in particular as they notoriously show signs of stress after periods of excessive precipitation. If you have a tree that is displaying irregular symptoms or possible safety issues, it is always best to have it checked out before something irreversible occurs.
We’ve been gearing up for the upcoming growing season by proactively evaluating our customers’ trees & shrubs to address this season’s needs. Whether it is for pruning, potential removal or a chemical application program for plant health care, the best results always come with a forecasted approach. Certain spray applications such as Dormant Oil and treatments for Apple Scab and Fireblight diseases are early season applications that yield great results if performed at the correct time.
Emerald Ash Bore is a topic that always receives a lot of attention these days in the world of tree care. With confirmed activity of Emerald Ash Bore in Miami, Montgomery & Warren counties, it is safe to say that the pest may be around for longer than we wish.
Is there any hope for our Ash trees or should we cut them down? We have come up with an effective preventative control program for Emerald Ash Bore that is economically feasible. There are many contrasting opinions as to the approach of caring for existing Ash and what, if anything should be done besides remove them. We recognize the benefits and intangible aspects that mature Ash trees provide, and have done our research to offer an alternative to removal. The program works best if started preventatively in the Spring, so if you have Ash trees and are interested in discussing our preservation program, please give us a call.
